In adversarial divorces, the scheduling of children's time is
called "custody and visitation." At Coast To Coast,
we refer to this as a "parenting plan." If you have
children, one step in a divorce mediation is to design a parenting
plan that will work for you and your children. We know from
experience that no two couples will end up with the same schedule,
because you and your family have your own unique needs.
We suggest that you bring along a photo of your children to
the mediation sessions where we discuss your parenting plan,
so that we can all keep the children in the center of our focus
as we work together to design a plan that will work for them
too.
At Coast To Coast we help you determine how and when you will
update your parenting plan in the future, as your needs, and
those of your children, change. We help you agree on when and
how to hold "periodic planning meetings."
A periodic planning meeting gives you flexibility, a way to
make changes in your schedule in the future. Some couples choose
to hold meetings in person, while others prefer to hold them
over the phone. Some parents change their parenting calendar
monthly, while others touch base every two or three months to
make any necessary changes. The method and frequency are up
to you. We help you set up a structure that you can successfully
use once your divorce is over. Unlike many other couples, you
will not need to resort to the court when one of you wants to
change your schedule in the future.
Our office is in San Diego County (Encinitas), however clients
come to us from all over the State of California, as well as
across the nation, so long as one spouse resides in San Diego
County. Feel free to contact
us for more information about how we can help you
design a workable parenting plan.
